Instagram Engagement Rates by Follower count

How is your engagement doing? Here are some stats on Instagram engagement rates that might surprise you.

It is important to remember that depending on your industry, type of account you have, and what you post about all factor in to your engagement rate.

Oftentimes people send me accounts for businesses or influencers and ask, "Are they really as famous as they look with all those followers and that blue checkmark? OR Is this business credible?"

The easiest way to tell is to check out their engagement. These accounts might have lots of followers, but the first 🚩 red flag is that they might have really low engagement and little-to-no engaging comments.

This is why I always say it's better to have low followers or likes but REAL followers & engagement because those are the people who actually care about your brand & what you have to share/sell.

When clients ask me if they should buy followers or likes/engagement to boost their credibility, my answer is always NO. I have worked with clients in the past with high numbers of fake followers and engagement, and it is nearly impossible to break out of the low engagement rut (and potential shadowban for life) you might get from this. Trust me, it's just not worth it!

Here's an easy way to calculate your engagement on any given post: Divide the total number of likes and comments by your follower count, and then multiply by 100 to give you a percentage.
